Family Devotional for week of May 3, 2015

Drive: The Mission of God in the World Lesson 2, Family Devotion Each week from 1966 to 1973, America tuned in to watch the Impossible Missions Force, a team of government agents sent on a series of covert operations to combat the evil organizations and dictators of the world. The show was titled Mission: Impossible. You might remember the movie remakes starring Tom Cruise. What made the show so memorable was the way in which the lead agent would receive his assignment. The assignment was typically delivered via a recording, and it would always begin with the following statement: “Your mission, should you decide to accept it . . .” Upon completion of the assignment instructions, the playback device would “self-destruct in five seconds.” You may not be a government official being sent out on a secret mission, but as a follower of Christ you are an agent being sent out on a very important mission. LTC Performance Night was a huge success!  Thank you to all our participants, coaches, and parents who made the night so special. Guys / Girls Bible Study   - Remember, our HS girls and our guys meet at 7 PM every Monday night for a time of intense Bible study. Guys meet at the church, girls meet at Emily Helton's home. Urban Legends   - Join us on Wednesday nights at 6:30 PM for an exploration of urban legends and how they affect our relationship with God. Prayer Breakfas t - Thursday at 7:00 AM in the Fellowship Hall - The Swafford family is providing breakfast this week. Drive -   The Youth Ministry is in a series on Sunday morning focusing on God’s mission for the world and our place in it.    There will be family devotional sheets available every week that build off of the Sunday lesson.    These lessons will be available in both paper format and on this blog.    Take advantage of these family devotional times with your child(ren.) Middle School Retreat

Okay, maybe not in comparison to the celebrities in People magazine, but if you have food in your refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof over your head, and a place to sleep, you are richer than 75 percent of the world. If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish somewhere . . . you are among the 8 percent that comprise the world’s wealthiest. If you can read this message, you are more fortunate than more than one billion people in the world who cannot read at all. But we possess an even greater wealth: knowledge of salvation. Read Psalm 67 together as a family. It’s almost as if the unknown writer of the hymn had a glimpse into the future. Urban Legends - Sasquatch, Nessie, el Chupacabras, what do these stories have in common with our faith?   Join us on Wednesday nights at 6:30 PM for an exploration of urban legends and how they affect our relationship with God. Prayer Breakfast - Thursday at 7:00 AM in the Fellowship Hall - The Hernandez family is providing breakfast this week. LTC Awards Sunday will be this Sunday, April 19 during the morning worship.   All students will receive their awards and our coaches and participants will be recognized that morning.   Our LTC participants will perform on Sunday night, April 26th at our family devotional in the fellowship hall following the youth led service.   Middle School Retreat - In The Eye of the Storm - @ Camp Deer Run, May 1-3. This will be an exciting retreat for our students in grades 6-8.   Turn in an application as soon as possible (found on the bulletin board in the north hallway off of the church foyer.)   The late registration cost is $70. Sunday, April 12 - Adopt a Highway Trash Pick Up and New Devotional Time.

This Sunday, April 12 is an exciting day for the LSCOC youth ministry.  At 3:00 PM we will be cooperating with other adults from League Street Church of Christ to clean our adopted highway on Hwy 11 S going towards Winnsboro.  All volunteers should meet at the church.  Gloves and trash bags will be provided.  Also, Sunday we will have our youth devotional at a new time: 5:00-7:00 PM. There will also be an event for children ages 2-5th grade during evening service known as Sunday Night Live.  This event will dismiss after the first song during Sunday evening service.
